A Melbourne primary school has been put in lockdown after a child reported seeing a threat.

The report led to St Albans Primary School in northwest Melbourne being locked down just after 2pm on Friday.

Police have been informed and are working with the school, Assistant Principal Mary Ross said.
'A child reported seeing something ... we are taking precautions,' she said, The Herald Sun reported.
